When I left my tenured professor position to work as a professional writer, I found a new sense of purpose, freedom, and peace.
What I didn’t expect was how untethered I would become from the communities to which I had belonged.
So much of my identity had been braided with institution, titles, campus conversations, shared deadlines. When that structure fell away, I wondered:
Who are my people now?
Where do I belong?
